God Uses MITI to Ignite Passion to Pray among Moms Worldwide

By Fern Nichols
President / Founder of Moms In Touch International
A worldwide ministry of prayer on every continent? Yes! Starting with five moms in 1984 to today approximately 175,000 women standing in the gap crying out for the children and schools? Yes! Thirteen Country Coordinators taking seriously their roles to see every school covered in prayer in their country? Yes! The MITI booklet translated into 38 languages? Yes!

HOW?  God’s faithfulness.

This August e-News is to exalt the faithfulness of God by focusing on a few of the miracle stories of how our booklet was translated as well as how God called our Country Coordinators. Would I love to tell you every miracle story? Yes, but it would take volumes!

Please rejoice with me as I reflect on the faithfulness of our God.

“Five times I spoke about Moms In Touch to African ladies in Tanzania and Uganda with about a hundred at each meeting. Thanks to the generosity of MITI headquarters, I was able to give away 600 MITI books, some in Swahili, some in English,” Barbara Hicks shared in l995 about her trip to Tanzania and Uganda. Today, we have a passionate Country Coordinator Diana Mushi who not only spreads the ministry throughout her own country of Tanzania but travels to other African countries to share MITI. Diana shares, “Parents here in Tanzania are seriously disturbed by the bad conduct of their children associated with drug addiction, thuggery and child abuse. The mothers are greatly moved and feel a great burden to pray for their children as I share the ministry of Moms In Touch.”

In 1993, we were also able to give the needed money to an Egyptian pastor as he went to Egypt to have 20,000 Arabic booklets printed inside the country. One lady shared with the pastor, “I was in despair over my children as the new school year started, knowing they would be in the hands of non-Christian teachers. This booklet came in time to lift me up and give me new hope that I can do something for them–this is a totally new idea to me.”  The pastor said, “God is using this little spark to begin a burning fire of renewed hope among the Christian women of Egypt.”

A very busy Russian man, who caught the vision of our ministry after reading our English booklet, quickly translated it into Russian. The five member MITI board and I sat around my “kitchen table” in 1991 needing to make a big decision: How many booklets could we afford to print? We were impressed strongly by the Holy Spirit that God wanted us to step out in faith and print 5,000 booklets. That very day I received a large donation check in the mail that was given by a mom in memory of her mother’s recent death. She felt that her mother would have wanted part of her inheritance to go the furtherance of the ministry beyond our borders. It was the money we needed. Can you imagine how thrilled we were to see how God supplied! But the precious part of this story is that the mom who gave the money and her family were going to Russia for two years. So she was able to take the newly printed booklets to lay a foundation and help start MITI groups in Russia! Today, thousands of Russian moms pray in MITI groups.  And in 2000, God raised up a Country Coordinator, Diana Kondratieva. She travels 11 time zones sharing with Russian women about the importance of praying for children and schools. Oh, the faithfulness of our God.

How did Diana from Russia hear about MITI? Through a woman in Moldova. For many  years, Olga Mocan wanted to start women’s prayer groups in her country of Moldova, but she had no idea how to begin. In the summer of 1991, an unknown guest left one copy of a Romanian language MITI booklet with the pastor of her Baptist church in Kishinev.  “This is for women,” said the pastor, “perhaps you will find it helpful,” and he passed the booklet along to Olga. At home, Olga read the little booklet from cover to cover and exclaimed, “Oh, God! You have answered my prayers. Now I know what to do and how to begin!” Olga became our Country Coordinator for Moldova. “This is revolutionary,” the women would exclaim as they were taught one accord prayer and the Four Steps.  The legacy of Moms In Touch goes on today as Olga’s daughter, Mariana, has taken up the mantle of Country Coordinator and continues to spread MITI throughout the country.

This miracle story takes us from Sweden to Egypt to Germany. Mütter In Kontakt, our German booklet, was translated by Ingrid Giger a Swedish woman who first heard of MITI in Cairo, Egypt, and began praying for her children. Then she moved back to Germany, started a group, translated the booklet and became our first Country Coordinator for Germany.  In l995, she organized a Moms In Touch retreat, where nine moms from Switzerland attended. Vreni Henriksen was one of those moms and became the first Country Coordinator for Switzerland and served for seven years.  The providential hand of God on this ministry is truly astounding!!

Ethiopian pastor Yoseph Menna, after reading the MITI Booklet said, “This is what we need for our women!” Once again we saw God be faithful to answer our prayers. In a short matter of time, the booklet was translated into Amharic. "Could you help print 10,000 booklets?" he asked. We shared the need with you, and a generous donor gave $10,000, exactly what was needed! The prayer movement of MITI is now spreading throughout Ethiopia at a rapid rate.

One prayer, one mom, one donor, one ambassador, one translator, one mom saying yes to leadership makes a difference–an eternal difference!!

My faithful Father, thank You. Thank You for all Your mighty deeds and acts of love that You have poured out on Moms In Touch International. Your faithfulness is realized over and over in answers to our prayers. “You have just begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works You do?”  (Deuteronomy 3:24) We wait in great expectation to see Your greatness continue to be revealed in the next 25 years.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
